In the humble surroundings of a small community church in Gurei, located in the western part of Juba City, a quiet transformation is unfolding, one small hand at a time. Bright faces and eager eyes filled the Sunday school yard, each child holding close something they never dreamed they would own: their very own Children’s Story Bible in English, beautifully titled “Love of God.”
For many of these children, school has remained a distant hope. But despite their limited access to formal education, something powerful is happening. With the help of colorful pictures inside the book, and the gentle, loving explanations from their Sunday school teachers and facilitators, these children are beginning to understand the stories of God’s love, mercy, and truth.
The joy was impossible to hide.
Children who once came to church empty-handed now walk with pride, clutching their books to their chests. These little Bibles have become more than reading material, they are companions. A spark of excitement lights up their Sundays as they gather, books in hand, to learn and share together. Teachers report that the books have become a wonderful aid in class, helping even the youngest learners to follow the stories and engage deeply in their lessons.
This moment was made possible through the kind support of the Bible Society in South Sudan (BSSS) and their faithful Partners through the Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) program. Their contribution has given more than books, it has given a voice to God’s love, reaching children who might have otherwise gone unheard.
As the children smiled for the photo, the message was clear in their shining eyes: “Thank you for giving us the Word of God in a way we can understand.”
In the dirt-floored rooms of Gurei’s community church, a new generation is rising one page, one story, and one small heart at a time.
