“But Naaman went away angry and said, ‘I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy.'”

Naaman expected a grand, miraculous display from Elisha, but instead, the prophet sent a simple message: “Go wash in the Jordan seven times.” This offended Naaman, who felt his status deserved better treatment. How often do we carry expectations of how healing should look? Pride and preconceived ideas can hinder us from accepting God’s simple solutions. Healing sometimes requires humility, being willing to let go of our sense of control and trust God’s methods, even when they don’t meet our expectations.

Reflection Questions:

  • Have there been moments when pride or frustration blocked you from receiving what God offered?
  • How can surrendering control help you embrace the healing God has in store?
